The YPDP’s Mourns the Loss Of 28 Promising Young Students In The Fire Disaster Outside the Liberia Capitol Monrovia

The Young Professionals Development Program has expressed deep regrets over the death of nearly thirty promising young students as a result of a fire disaster at the Islamic Mission School in the Paynesville, Red-light Community. “The YPDP through its Executive Director, Mr. Morris J. Sheriff wishes to extend sympathy to the victims and their families for the sudden loss of at least 28 persons, mostly children and youths who were trapped and killed after fire gutted an Islamic school building early Wednesday morning in the Bassa Community, outside Monrovia.

We are deeply saddening with this great disaster thus, the incident reportedly occurred when the children, from the Bassa Town Quranic Recitation Center located in Paynesville were asleep. The cause of the incident has not been established, but some community members have attributed it to electrical fault. The Muslim Community have planned a prayer service at the 17 Street Mosque for the peaceful repose of those who died.

The YPDP urges the Liberian government to launched a prompt investigation to establish the cause of the incident, so as to avoid such tragedy recurrent. May their innocent souls rest in perfect peace!
